🐻 Bear Paw Quilt Block

The Bear Paw is one of the most beloved and recognizable traditional American quilt blocks. It dates back to the mid-1800s and appeared in numerous quilt pattern collections throughout the nineteenth century.

Why is it called Bear Paw?

The block's arrangement of squares and triangles resembles the imprint of a bear's paw, complete with four "toes" surrounding a central pad. Different quilters see different things, but the name has endured for over 150 years.

Symbolism and Meaning

Bear Paw is often associated with:
