• Kingfishers have built-in goggles. They can switch from air vision to underwater vision instantly, thanks to special eye structures that compensate for the way light bends in water — perfect for spotting fish with laser precision.
• Even though they’re expert fishers, kingfishers sometimes miscalculate and end up performing dramatic belly-flops into the water. They pop up looking slightly offended, shake themselves off, and try again like nothing happened.
