A peacock’s feathers aren’t actually colored blue and green by pigment — like the blue jay, their shimmering colors come from microscopic crystal-like structures that bend and reflect light, creating that magical iridescent glow.

Peacocks love to show off… but sometimes they misjudge their audience. They’ve been seen displaying their full tail fan to cars, garden hoses, statues, and even their own reflection — anything they think might be impressed.

Peacocks can shake their tail feathers at ultrafast speeds (around 25 times per second) without actually ruffling them. This creates a low-frequency vibration that females can sense — a secret “dance signal” hidden beneath the visual display.
