Did you know : Meerkats live in tight-knit family groups called mobs or gangs, usually made up of about 20 members, but sometimes over 50. They work together to find food, care for pups, and keep watch for predators. Meerkats take turns being the “sentry” — standing tall on their hind legs, often on a rock or mound, scanning the sky for eagles or hawks. They look like tiny furry guards on duty, and when danger’s near, they make a special bark-like alarm call to warn the group. Meerkats have a natural immunity to certain venoms, including scorpion stings and some snake bites. This allows them to snack on creatures that would be deadly to many other animals.
