Chapter 5 of our Halloween story ... The Scroll from the Shadows,

As the moon reached its highest point, a rustle stirred the cool night air. With wings like whispering velvet, a bat descended from the broken spire of the ruins. It circled once, then landed with precision upon the windowsill of the arched stone. Clutched tightly in its claws: a scroll bound with a curious gingham ribbon, its ends dancing like flickering candlelight in the breeze.

Lady Lilitha approached with caution, her eyes narrowing. Ebonwing tilted his head, feathers ruffled in a hush of recognition.

The scroll unfurled on its own, revealing swirling ink that shimmered faintly as though alive. The message read:

"When the thirteenth bell tolls, I will return to where the veil is thin and the past still breathes. The path must be lit, the elixirs aligned, and the gate prepared. The Hollow Night draws near."

The “M” burned softly into the parchment before fading into mist.

Lilitha’s breath caught. The bat let out a soft chirp and vanished into the night, its wings catching a brief glint of purple starlight.

The scroll crackled once more, then sealed itself tight again—waiting.
