A regal block to finish Volume 5 in style.
The King's Crown is a pieced block in which triangles and squares form points around a central square, suggesting the jewelled points of a crown. It is part of a family of crown blocks that includes Crown of Thorns, Queen's Crown and Crown and Cross.
Crown and royal names were popular for 19th-century quilt blocks, and versions of King's Crown appeared in pattern sources such as the Ladies Art Company catalogue.
👑 Did You Know?
Royal names didn't always mean royalty. Crown blocks were often linked to Bible verses and religious imagery as much as to kings and queens, and they were favourite choices for special-occasion and wedding quilts.
🧵 A Little Heritage
Every collection needs a crowning piece. We've given this block a place of honour as the final stamp of Volume 5.
