Beschreibung
Hundreds of little triangles that ripple across the quilt like the sea.
Ocean Waves is made almost entirely of half-square triangles arranged in bands of light and dark. When the blocks are joined, the triangles form diagonal waves with diamond-shaped "calm water" between them.
It is a classic 19th-century pattern and was hugely popular from around the 1880s into the early 20th century. Many fine examples survive, including Amish and Mennonite Ocean Waves quilts in bold, plain colours.
🌊 Did You Know?
Ocean Waves was a scrap quilter's dream. All those small triangles could be cut from leftover fabrics, so a single quilt might contain dozens of different prints. It was also a real test of accuracy, as every point needed to meet for the waves to flow.
🧵 A Little Heritage
Patience, scraps and a love of the sea, all in one timeless pattern.
We've captured this design as Volume 5, Stamp 11, giving you another little piece of quilt history to add to your Heritage Quilt Society collection.
