Beschreibung
Spokes, a hub and a rim — a block that rolls straight out of the pioneer era.
The Wagon Wheel block uses wedge-shaped pieces radiating from a centre circle to form the spokes of a wheel. Variations range from simple pieced wheels to elaborate designs with dozens of narrow spokes.
Wheels of all kinds were a favourite subject for quilters. Related names include Wheel of Fortune, Wheel of Mystery and Old Wagon Wheel.
🛞 Did You Know?
The covered wagon was the great family vehicle of westward migration. Quilts travelled in those wagons too, as bedding, padding and treasured keepsakes from home. A wheel block was a reminder of the long road and the people who travelled it.
🧵 A Little Heritage
Round designs take patience and precision to piece. That's one reason a well-made wheel quilt was always something to be proud of.
We've captured this design as Volume 5, Stamp 4, giving you another little piece of quilt history to add to your Heritage Quilt Society collection.
