Beschreibung
A pathway of squares and triangles that leads the eye right across the quilt.
The Road to Oklahoma is a four-patch style block of small squares and half-square triangles. When the blocks are repeated, the squares link up into diagonal lines, forming a criss-crossing road through the quilt.
It belongs to a big family of "road" and "path" blocks such as Jacob's Ladder, Rocky Road to Kansas and Road to California. Each one is a small variation on the same idea, and many were named after real journeys and places.
🛤️ Did You Know?
Quilt names often reflected the news of the day. Oklahoma's famous land runs, starting in 1889, drew thousands of settlers westward. It is easy to see why a block full of roads and crossings would take on the name of a place so many families were heading for.
🧵 A Little Heritage
Simple pieces, a sense of journey and a name full of pioneer spirit: Road to Oklahoma is a perfect little piece of American quilt history.
We've captured this design as Volume 5, Stamp 3, giving you another little piece of quilt history to add to your Heritage Quilt Society collection.
