My secret is a layer of clear plastic (a clear plastic or vinyl sheet) hooped instead of stabiliser. It is hidden between the top and back fabric, so your coasters catch the drips but nothing reaches the table, and the edges trim up beautifully clean. Make a set for your own Thanksgiving table, or stitch a few sets as hostess gifts.
